The heart, brain and movement behind ImproDans is dance artist Karen Høybakk Mikalsen.
The mission statement of ImproDans is to create dance performances, organize and arrange events and festivals for dance art and improvisation, and to invite to workshops in improvisation, ensemble work and contemporary dance.  
About Karen

Karen is a contemporary dance artist, teacher and choreographer educated from the School of Contemporary Dance in Oslo, The University College of Dance in Stockholm and the Erasmus Exchange program at SEAD - Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance in Austria. She has studied improvisation, composition, release technique and contact improvisation at Movement Research/NY and festivals and workshops around Usa and Europe. She has deepen her interests in ensemble work, and specifically in Ensemble Thinking with Lower Left Performance Collective; Nina Martin, Rebecca Bryant, Margaret Paek, Andrew Wass and Kelly Dalrymple-Wass. (NY/TX).

Karen lives and works in Oslo, Norway. She's a researcher, a collaborator, a teacher and an organizer, and she the founder of Oslo ImproFestival and MIND THE GAP - low tech performance space for dance projects.  

Artistically, Karen is interested in how the body; movement and gestures, can convey human conditions, and her artistic expressions are generated by group processes and flock work. She is inspired by everyday events, social codes and herd behavior, as well as ideas from books, movies, architecture, art sculptures, thoughts of "cause and effect", and everything else that is interpersonal!
